During our discussion on “Unseen Rules of the Game – Power and Micropolitics in the Academic World,” junior professors and postdocs from Leipzig spoke with Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger about key challenges and necessary changes in academia:
🤝 Why we need more genuine spaces for interaction: Human interaction in academia is increasingly being neglected. We need these opportunities to connect outside of strictly professional settings so that we can get to know and appreciate one another better as people. This is especially important for overcoming the invisible rules of the game.
🌿 Why we need a modern approach to gender equality: Equal sharing of caregiving responsibilities should be a priority for all genders. Modern academic institutions must establish the appropriate framework conditions to support this.
🎓 Why permeable career paths are so important: Academic careers must allow for flexible entry points and later career shifts—also to keep the path to research professorships open.
❗And why we must remain vigilant: Current backlashes against gender equality demand our attention and a clear stance moving forward.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful moderator Prof. Dr. Julia Sacher and to all participants for the inspiring exchange!
The event, organized by the Leipzig Science Network e. V., brought together around 25 early-career researchers from the Leipzig science network for the first time. This was made possible by the commitment of the Young Forum of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig, as well as Dr. Antje Nolting, Mandy Uhlig, and Agnes Silberhorn.
