🎉Congratulations! We congratulate Johannes Krause (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology) and Christian Doeller (Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences) on being awarded the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This means that two of the ten prizes have gone to Leipzig. We also congratulate Lars Meyer (Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences) on securing an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). In addition to their roles as MPI directors, Prof. Doeller and Prof. Krause are also honorary professors at the University of Leipzig.
👉 Christian Doeller is receiving the award for his work in cognitive neuroscience and psychology, through which he explores human cognition and, in particular, the connection between spatial perception and logical thinking.
👉 Johannes Krause is receiving the award for his contributions to archaeogenetics, through which he investigates the history of human settlement across different continents and the historical spread of infectious diseases.
👉 With this grant, Lars Meyer will further expand his groundbreaking research on language processing in the brain and use imaging techniques, computer-assisted analysis, and experiments to investigate when and why listening and understanding come easily to us.
These achievements also serve as a tribute to the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, whose outstanding work and scientific culture make these outstanding achievements possible! The awards and the ERC grant are a striking sign to the research strength of Leipzig as a center of science and a boost to our national and international visibility and appeal.
