Leipzig is an open, international city of science that thrives on exchange and collaboration. The Welcome Reception – jointly hosted by the City of Leipzig and the Leipzig Science Network – impressively demonstrated this. Around 100 international researchers from LSN member institutions were welcomed on Tuesday evening at the German Museum of Books and Writing. 🤝🔬
In their welcoming remarks, Johannes Neuer (German National Library), Prof. Dr. Eva Inès Obergfell (Chair of the LSN Board and Rector of Leipzig University) and Vicki Felthaus (Mayor for Youth, Education and Democracy) emphasised the importance of international researchers for Leipzig as a strong science hub.
At the panel discussion 💬 “The Future of International Scientific Cooperation – How Are Geopolitical Tensions Shaping Collaboration?”, Prof. Dr. Matthias Middell and Dr. Yamini Yogya highlighted a clear message: international cooperation is changing, but remains indispensable. The discussion also addressed concrete challenges, from professorship application processes to naturalisation and recognition procedures. The evening made clear: 🌐 Internationality requires spaces for encounter, honest debate, and continuous commitment.
