Networking doesn’t always have to take place in seminar rooms or at conferences: The Leipzig Science Cup has once again demonstrated how sports bring science together. On Wednesday, May 20, the Cup entered its third round, with 17 teams from Leipzig’s scientific institutions participating with enthusiasm, team spirit, and a great atmosphere. The matches were played on the Neue Linie field at SG LVB e. V. The soccer players weren’t deterred by the occasionally mixed weather and played until sunset.
🏆 This year, Leipzig’s most coveted challenge cup goes to the BiomechanKicker (Leipzig University Hospital)! They prevailed 4–2 against Mathletico Max Planck in a thrilling final—a strong performance! 🥈 2nd place: Mathletico Max Planck (Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences) 🥉 3rd place: TROPOS Cloud Kickers (Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS)) 🏅 4th place: Universitätssportgemeinschaft Medizin Leipzig (Leipzig University Hospital) 🎨 The special prize for the most creative team name went to “BSG Rotation Mitropa” (Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO)) – absolutely well deserved!
A huge thank you to all the teams, fans, and volunteers—and especially to Hans-Christoph Thiele from the Knowledge Policy Department, who once again organized and managed the event with unparalleled enthusiasm. The Leipzig Science Cup is jointly organized by the Leipzig Science Network e. V. and the Knowledge Policy Department of the City of Leipzig. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to SpinLab – The HHL Accelerator and BITROAD GmbH | A SpinLab Company for their support, and we are already looking forward to the Leipzig Science Cup 2027!
