Call for participation in the 1st Leipzig Science Cup
Leipzig is a host city of the UEFA EURO 2024. To get in the mood for the tournament and to promote scientific coexistence in our city, the Department of Science Policy of the City of Leipzig is organizing the 1st Leipzig Science Cup together with the Leipzig Science Network. All Leipzig science institutions can nominate their own teams for this soccer tournament. We cordially invite you to participate!
Information about the tournament
The tournament will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 3:30pm to approx. 9:00pm on the sports field Neue Linie of SG LVB e.V. (Neue Linie 1, 04277 Leipzig). The game is played with 5 (4+1) players on small pitches, each game lasts ten minutes. We play a preliminary round and a final round. The entry fee is 20 EUR per team.
Team composition
Five to ten employees (current employment contract) of a scientific institution form a team. Each team should be comprised of
- at least one team member over the age of 40,
- at least one non-male team member and
- at least one international team member.
Registration
Please register your team by May 13, 2024. Please name a person responsible for the team with an email address and a telephone number as well as a team name (with reference to the institution). You do not need to inform us of the exact team composition at this stage.
Please coordinate within your institution: In order to enable as many institutions as possible to participate, each institution can initially register one team. If we receive more than one registration from an institution, we will initially collect the other teams on a waiting list in the order of their registration. If not all starting places can be allocated to different institutions, the waiting teams will move up and will be informed promptly. The institutions do not have to be members of the Leipzig Science Network.
If you have any questions, please contact Hans-Christoph Thiele from the Department of Science Policy of the City of Leipzig, 0341 123-2014,
We are looking forward to the premiere of the tournament fostering cross-institutional exchange and are excited to see which institution will win the trophy!
